Hot Cross Buns
Available during Easter
Spiced, sweet, and studded with raisins, our Hot Cross Buns are a nod to centuries of tradition. Based on a 14th-century Saxon recipe originally created to honor the goddess Eostre, these buns have come a long way—don’t worry, we’ve skipped the Medieval additions like ox blood and salted toad. (You’re welcome.)
The iconic cross scored or iced on top has long symbolized both the four seasons and, later, the Christian cross—especially as these buns became a staple of Good Friday.
These soft, yeast-leavened buns were once believed to protect sailors from shipwreck when taken aboard. Today, they mostly protect against boring breakfasts. Now they cross the line between tradition and deliciousness, every time.
