Irish Soda Bread
Our biggest holiday seller, and for good reason—this loaf is as steeped in tradition as it is in flavor. Inspired by the simple, resourceful recipes of 19th-century Irish homes, soda bread rose to popularity when baking soda first made its way to Ireland and yeast was still too expensive or hard to come by for many households.
Leavened with baking soda instead of yeast and traditionally baked over an open hearth, this rustic loaf delivers a dense, hearty crumb with a soft tang. We stay true to its roots while adding a Bread & Cie twist—folding in raisins and a few secret ingredients to sweeten the story.
And yes, the cross on top? It’s there to help the loaf bake evenly… and maybe to let the fairies out or ward off mischief, depending on whom you ask.
Available during the weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day.
